Christmas

So Christmas has come and gone and all presents have been exchanged and unwrapped. Amy got me a Kindle from Amazon which is an electronic reader and you can download books wirelessly. Thing is totally neat! Reading Dan Brown's "Lost Symbol" which so far is pretty good. Also got Red Sox/Bruins items as well as tickets to the Bruins Legends Game on Jan 2! :-D For Amy I got her a bunch of stuff from the Office, some stuff animals, clothes etc. Also getting her a car starter sometime this week :)

Hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday!

Boo Snow!

So it's 11am here and soon enough it's gonna be near blizzard conditions here in MA. Some stations are forecasting 15-20". Ugh, talk about Mother Nature socking it too us. It's been fairly quiet this winter but it's about to get ugly real quick. Glad we got us a new snowblower hehe. Well, at this rate, I think we'll be having a White Christmas.

Since I've last blogged not much has really been happening. Weezer had to cancel, work is the same ole, and yea, that's about it. Oh, and it's been f$%king cold.

Weezah!

Is how you say it in Bahstin and we're gonna be seeing them on December 7th up at Boston University with Jack's Mannequin! Cannot wait, we were both a little disappointed when we didn't get to see them with Blink but Amy reasoned that a)they're not headlining and b)they'll probably go on tour soon after Blink182 is over. Sure enough they're back on tour and one of their few acts, they're playing in Boston! I cannot wait!!! :)

Halloween time!

Almost that time to get all dressed up and hand out treats to the kiddies. Looking forward to getting together with some of our friends and interested to see what they're dressed up as. Since there's probably only 2 ppl that read this blog, you probably already know what we're going as :P

Anyways, we're all stocked up on candy and we're rocking and ready to go!

Operation: Get Caitlin up to Mass

Man, I need to blog more. Seems like this is just becoming a monthly thing.

So, since having my doubts I had a change of heart and am now on the reserve list to become a full time police officer! I'm glad I got Amy around to keep my head on straight and have faith in me :)Basically now what happens is that I sit around and wait for my name to come up for a full time position which won't be for years haha.

What else has been going on. Hmm, well nothing much really. As of this moment, myself and Amy are trying to convince her bff Caitlin to move up to Mass to work for Fox. Sure she'll freeze up here for a lil bit but before she knows it, she'd be a tried and true New Englander. So ya hear me Caitlin? You'll love it up here and you and your Hanson bff can carpool and sing all your Hanson favs on your way to work! :)

Oh and how can you forget El Pato and Ana!

Doubts

So, things have changed a little since my last blog entry. Recently I received a call about the job position that I had interviewed for and was told that one of the people vying for the job dropped his name from the running and I was next in line. Of course I was thrilled and was told that if I could, to attend a doctors physical that afternoon. Of course I said...and then was told I'd have to pay out of pocket for it. Um, why am I paying for healthcare then? So, I was like, 'ok, gotta do what I gotta do' and went ahead and paid a ridiculous amount of money for what I coulda had my doc do for just a simple co-pay.

Well, now zip forward a couple weeks to the present day where I have a physical agility test which I'm now finding I have to pay for once again, out of pocket. And on top of it, I'm being told that I cannot take a training day for it and have to burn two vacation days. Sure, people tell me it'll be worth it in the long run, but if I'm having doubts about it now, what's to say I won't have these doubts down the road? Oh, did I mention, that basically I just get on this list to be hired even though I won't be hired for several years down the road, probably when I'm close to 40? I got a lot weighing on me right now and just not sure what I wanna do anymore. :(

Why Bother?

Today that is my general theme of my post.

Just picked up Guitar Hero 5 and that song by Weezer is on the game and man it's such a catchy song! Take a listen.

As for second part of the theme ties in with work. Sometimes I wonder, Why Bother? No matter how much I do, no matter what I do, I cannot seem to catch a break. Basically I've been at my job for 5+ years now. I'm attempting to land a full time gig within my job at another position. However, I just can't seem to catch a break and now I just kinda sing that Weezer song in my head and I feel as though it fits my mood.

To take a step away from my theme, lately I've become quite the g33k. Not only have we picked up Guitar Hero 5 (which between Amy, Ian and myself have almost beaten in 2 sittings), I've jumped on board and picked up a new PS3 slim. That now completes the trifecta of Wii, XBox360 and now the PS3. *pushes up my horn rimmed glasses and adjusts pocket protector*

That is all, feel free to play with the new fishies I've put at the top of my blog. Take a couple clickeroos anywhere in the box to see what happens :)

So I here I sit

It's hot as heck out and I'm just chillin here while they put in a new bay window in my house. It looks a million times better than the 50 yr old storm window that was there previously. Can't wait til its all done woo!

So a lot has gone on since I blogged a month and a half ago. Incubus, Blink182, cookouts, Cape Cod etc etc. Other than that tho, it's mostly been the same hohum routine of: Work, dinner, TV, Sleep, repeat. Such an exciting life I live!

PS, did I mention its hot? Bout 90 degrees here and expected to get hotter.

4th of July

Happy 4th all! I sit here at work. Bored outta my mind just waiting for 4pm. Nothing really new here other than the fact that it's rained every day for what seems like the last 15 days. Hoping maybe it'll finally stop and we'll see that bright orange thing they call the sun but right now it looks sorta promising. I do see a little bit of blue sky so that's always good. Maybe I'll send some rain down Caitlin's way (in Louisiana:))

Martha's Vineyard

Went to Martha's Vineyard yesterday and had an absolute blast with Amy, Nicole and Eric. We got up at 5:45 am (SO EARLY!) but I managed. Got on the ferry which was quite comfy and had a nice relaxing breakfast and boat ride. After getting off the boat we walked around a lil to realize that most shops hadn't even opened yet! Amy and I were very reluctant to rent a car but in the end glad we did cuz we got to see so many sites around the island we woulda missed if we hadn't (plus a taxi ride was gonna cost us at least $50 one way! Screw that!)

Our first stop was a place called Aquinnah which is in the SE part of the island. Walked around some of the shops, looked at the cliffs and lighthouse and then voyaged down to the beach. Well, weren't we in for a couple surprises. While walking on the beach, we saw what looked like some sorta carcass. Come to find out it was a Basking shark that had washed up a couple weeks ago (Story). Also, while walking on the beach we see a guy sitting on a chair and it appeared that he wasn't wearing anything! I kept my head down and just kept on walking. While we were leaving, Eric and I see a guy wearing a shirt that hung down a lil bit and he was holding his shorts in his hand. Come to find out this was a clothing optional beach!! Eep!

After that we visited several of the other areas around the island including some lighthouses and other various sites and went to a little pub for some good grub and pint. Then later on in the afternoon we figured we'd have another pint at this place called Black Dog Tavern and maybe grab an appetizer or something before heading off to the ferry to head home. Well, turns out, the "Tavern" didn't serve alcohol, the only food they had was seafood (which none of us eat). So we told our waitress that all we wanted was dessert instead (we were already committed to having to order something kinda when we ordered soda.) So we ended up gettin 2 slices of Apple Pie. When we got the bill we were a lil flabberegasted when we saw the total was over $30 for two pieces of pie along with 4 sodas. Didn't help our waitress was a lil snooty as well. So for those reading, lesson learned:

Black Dog Tavern in Vineyard Haven, MA:
a)overpriced
b)no alcohol
c)bad service
d)seafood only

After all was said and done we wandered around a lil bit more and turns out there was a ferry not listed on the schedule that was getting ready to leave around 6:30, 45 minutes before we had planned to leave. Now mind you, the ferry we took over had seats, a food card, tv's and was pretty relaxing. Come to find out this was pretty much a car ferry transporting vehicles over back to the mainland and there were no seats and no food. Thankfully tho, we ended up taking this ferry home b/c it started storming as soon as we got to our car. All in all, a fun day and well worth the trip :)

So here I sit...

4 hours into my 16 hour shift. Ugh. Nothing like taking a day off only to find out that the shift after yours is unfilled and you're forced into that shift. Well, I'll take back my vacation day, use it for Sunday and just work a 16 hour shift cuz there's no point in taking a vacation day if I have to work. Mwaha. *sigh* Oh well, looks like a movie day tomorrow of Freaks and Geeks, and whatever else may happen. :) Looking forward to it already :)

Thank you Bruins

Dear Boston Bruins,

Thank you for a great season. No one, no one expected you to be the best team in the Eastern Conference very few expected you to make any difference in the NHL. You rarely got press coverage on the major new networks yet you kept plugging along, raking in the big numbers showing that you could play with the big boys. And to think, just 2 years ago, you were a lottery team. You've got some pretty big hardware you can still win, even though it may not be the Stanley Cup...you can still win the Coach of the Year, and best DMan of the year, not too shabby for what most experts had placed you to finish.

So yes, thank you Bruins, you had a great run, you gave and have given a lot of hope to your diehard fans who bleed black and gold. So hold your heads up high, you have absolutely nothing to be ashamed of and everything to be proud of. We love you guys. Thank you so much for everything and I/we here at Bruins nation look forward to the years to come.

Signed

Dan S.

Animal Lover

Well, last night I truly realized how much of an animal lover I am. Last night, around 10pm on my way home, I noticed a possum crossing the roadway right in front of me. I slowed down as much as I could and thinking that it had made it, I felt a ba-bump. I can't tell you how much it's bothered me since then, the whole way home I was actually in a funk. I know it's a rodent but I can't help but think that I hurt some possum's mom or dad or brother or sister. I kinda want to go back to where it occurred to see that maybe he/she is okay and isn't there anymore.

UPDATE: Just a little update, actually went back yesterday and looks like he may have scurried off afterwards cuz there was no roadkill. Definitely made me feel a lil better :)

Long weekend

So this past weekend I decided it was time to use a vacation day and sit back and enjoy the weekend. So I was off Friday where I kinda just vegged...did some laundry, cleaned the fish tank and hung outside with the dog and read a few chapters of my book Generation Kill. Then Saturday Amy laid out in the sun and I went and helped her Dad fix a lawnmower battery (turned out the battery wasn't the problem!) Then came back and went out to do some errands and came back to assemble the grill, have some burgers and relax with a couple margaritas. The grill ended up being a project and a half. Finally ended up grilling at 8pm lol! It was definitely worth the wait tho in the long run with some burgers, doritos and margaritas!

Then Sunday I decided to take a vacation day and just hang out and enjoy the day. Got a call from Nicole who was gonna hang out with Amy and we decided to make a day of it and go to Newport Rhode Island. It was very relaxing to just go out, get something to eat and hang out. We ended up going to an old fort built in the 1800's, then went to a park where Eric and I just chilled and played some frisbee and baseball. Overall it was a pretty decent weekend :)

Being an adult...

Can sure stink sometimes. Granted its good being able to own your own home and being able to go out and buy things for your home and buy accessories and whatnot whenever you want, but I sure miss the days of being a kid. Amy and I are in the process of refinancing our house and its a pain in the butt having to fill out a ton of paperwork, clean the house for the accessor and then wait until the paperwork is complete to shell out a ton of money upfront. At least least we're gonna be saving money in the long haul.

I sure miss the days when the hardest thing you had to do was wake up early so you can watch Saturday morning cartoons and then wondering how your GI Joe action figures were gonna defeat the evil COBRA. Lol

Rainy Day

Today's one of those days you wake up, its cloudy, dreary and raining and all you want to do is lay in bed and sleep til lord knows when. Not for me though, I'm here, sitting at work wishing I was home. Oh well.

Right now we've been working on some home renovations and putting up some new interior doors making the house look a lil more modern and not so 1950ish. So far, we're about 1 1/2 doors in with 4 to go. Fun fun! Once that's done, we're having a contractor come look at the house and do a couple windows. Not only will the house look better aesthetically, it'll help keep the cold air out during the winter so it's a win win.

Hobby

So as I sit here at work, I'm thinking "I need a hobby". I really don't have one. Essentially my days consist of going to work, XBox, TV for the night. Granted I don't mind doing all that but I feel like a hobby would definitely be something interesting. Not quite sure what I feel like picking up. I used to assemble model cars and such and that could be fun and was also thinking maybe picking up guitar but my only experience with guitar comes from Rock Band/Guitar Hero and I know that it's not even close to the real thing so I dunno. Anyone else have any suggestions?

25 Things

So Amy and Caitlin have done this thing where you name 25 things about yourself that others may not know about you. I figured I'd hop on board this as well. I might try to get some bonus ones in but we'll see :P

1) I tend to 2nd guess myself as well. As I sit here at my current place of employment, I sometimes wonder knowing what I know now, whether I should have gone into another field ie-computer science or something along those lines.

2) I'm a huge sports nut. I love all New England Sports but most especially the Red Sox and the Bruins. Probably a lil too much of a fan, just ask Amy :P

3)I have a tendency to fall in love with Boston Bands-Aerosmith, Mighty Mighty Bosstones and Dropkick Murphys

4)I'm a video game nut. Generally with XBox but with the Wii as well. Pretty much always have been with Nintendo, Super Nintendo and Gameboy

5)I love to draw. I'm not that good at it. I'm more into cartoonish drawings and none of that still life crap.

6) Love to tinker with cars. I mostly just do small repairs (oil, brakes etc) I like it b/c a)I learn from it and b)I save a lotta loot.

7)I'm a huge dog lover. If I could have dogs running around everywhere in the house, I probably would but, a)we have a small house and b)not economical and c)it'd be so loud!

8)I have a love/hate relationship with New England. I hate the weather, but love it. N.E. is one of the few parts of the country that has all 4 seasons. Some places just have hot/warm. Here its mild, hot, cool, snow.

9)I have a great wife <3

10)I have great in-laws. Mom/Dad have both treated me like I was their oldest son since the day they met me and the brother in law is great as well! :)

11)As I've grown up, I've realized that the Earth is something we should value and treasure. I've hopped on with Amy and Caitlin in being a little more 'green' and trying to recycle more, use less plastic bags

12)Growing up I was the typical Boston kid: I was gonna grow up and be the next Nomar Garciaparra for the Boston Red Sox and be the starting shortstop. Well, that sure as heck never happened haha.

13) I'm horrible at deciding things. What to do, what to have for dinner. Amy and I will sometimes just sit there for like 10 minutes trying to figure out stuff to do.

14)I love my Peanut butter and jelly. Yes, I'm almost 30 years old and I still pretty much bring in a PB/J sandwich everyday to work. Not only is it delicious, but I save a ton of money from not eating out everyday which I don't understand. Say you eat out everyday and spend $5/day in food/coffee and what not. $25 a week $100/month $1200 a year! That's just crazy the amount I save =]

15)I find it so much easier to text someone than actually call them. I think a lot of people will agree with me on this fact. Instead of calling someone and asking them "Hey, what you doing? Wanna come over?" Can be sent in a simple text without even having to talk to them

16)I consider myself a big history buff. My wife thinks history's boring but where would we be without it? :) Probably the part I love the most is WWII. I have books upon books and tons of movies recounting the acts of soldiers of that time

17)Staying on the book theme, I consider myself a bookworm. I love to read. It helps pass the time at work and at home. Whether it be something by Tom Clancy or something from the WWII era, I am probably reading something of that sort at any point.

18)Allergies. I've had them my whole life and they'll probably never go away. I seem to have them year round. Just ask my wife lol I think she get's a lil annoyed by it sometimes but I can't help it! I seem to be allergic to almost every type of airborne allergen and only allergic to a one food which doesn't bother me (shellfish!)

19)I actually don't mind baking. I've always had a sweet tooth so it fits well with me. Often times I usually take the shortcut and just bake stuff out of the box but I tend to enjoy making a cake or other sweets.

20)When I was younger my house was broken into two times. Both during the day and the first time I was actually home and was only about 10 years old. It was quite the traumatic experience and since then I've always been a lil OCD about making sure my house is secure and all the doors are locked up tight.

21)Crying babies in public annoy me. My wife and I totally dislike being out in public and just hearing kids and babies cry constantly. Lol, we're gonna make GREAT parents.

22)I'm such a procrastinator. I dunno why, but putting things off is a thing that I do awesome and that's probably why its taken me so long to do my list of 25 :)

23)In my fantasy life, I'd have two cars. My everyday car would probably be an Audi A4 and my fun car would definitely be a Ford Mustang. Preferably one from the 60's and either a GT350 or GT500. Eleanor

24) I love fantasy leagues. Probably started off about 5 years ago doing fantasy hockey on Yahoo! and now I do pretty much every sport. Hockey, baseball, football, football pick'em, college football pick'em, NCAA brackets

25) I've taken a ton of languages over the years. 7-12th grades I took Spanish and took a couple in college yet I'm not even close to being fluent in it. I've also taken a year of Latin (bleck!) and I've taken German as well (double bleck!)

BONUSES!
26)I've had a few hobbies over the years that I probably wouldn't mind revisting. For instance, I used to be big into fishing. Also was into doing up model cars.

27)In middle school, I played clarinet. I was never really that into it so I didn't really stick with it. Now that I'm older, I've had thoughts about picking up another instrument, probably guitar (mainly get that from playing Rock Band/Guitar Hero, even though its not even remotely close to playing the real thing)

28)I've always kinda considered myself savvy in electronics. Mainly from my days of working with cell phones for Verizon. I may have not been in the business for awhile but I always try to keep myself up to date on the latest and greatest.

29)I'm a tv junkie. Whether it be reality tv, WWII documentaries, sports, cartoons, sitcoms, I'm probably watching something along those lines several hours a day.

30)Amy hates long toenails, I hate long fingernails. I dunno why, it just irritates me when they get long.

31)Last but not least, when it comes to music, I'm pretty eclectic...I love a wide choice of music. However, when it comes to remembering lyrics to em, forget about it. I'll probably sing a few lines and then hum most of the rest lol.

That's it! Amy and Caitlin have already done theirs and I'll probably be the last one to do this. Doubt anybody else will read this or even do it themselves.

Been awhile

Yea, so it's been awhile since I've blogged and I figure I mine as well get cracking and back into the swing of things and trying to do it say once a week or so. Really haven't been up to much anything lately. Been working my usual days and been going to in service training for work at nights for the past few weeks. Tomorrow is my last class. Hooray! Although getting O/T $ for it definitely makes it worth it :)

Also just been mostly lounging around the house watching the Bruins, getting ready to watch the Sox and watching my 300 other shows as well.

Amy has a really good idea and did a thing giving 25 facts that you may or may not know about her and I think I may hop on that wagon as well and do it at some point so stay tuned!

At Last...

Such a fitting title for the new President and First Lady to have their First Dance too.

At last, he and his wife can take a breather and just enjoy the moment, the two of them.

At last, Change is here.

At last, Martin Luther King Jr can smile seeing that his Dream has come true.

While sitting there watching the inauguration, I could feel myself smiling, feeling good and actually got goosebumps on several occassions. Barack makes one feel good about themselves and can put a smile on almost any ones face. While on the other hand, I don't think I ever felt that way about Bush.

Change is here, At last.

Time to change

Well, today's the big day. Barack Obama is going to be the 44th President of the United States. He's inheriting a lot from the outgoing President and I'm hoping and thinking that he can turn this country around for the better. Never have I seen so many people feeling that there is hope that this country can rebound from the downs that we've been experiencing lately. I sure feel good and proud to say that I voted for him. I feel like I'm a part of this change. I'm definitely looking forward to watching Barack getting sworn in today.

Weird seeing some of these sites knowing that I was there about 5 months ago!
